Picaflor
...is the brand of three exiled Mexicans in Spain who run a distribution, tasting and event space for agave spirits in Barcelona under the name Enmezcalarte (roughly: "In mezcal there is art"). They are also the Spain importers for Real Minero and since we share a common philosophy, we work together in different places. For example, Picaflor has no contracts with the producers, who can always work with other brands or make their own. In addition, only what the producer actively offers is bottled. That is why we sell Mezcal Picaflor in Germany.
Picaflor means hummingbird, a bird that feeds significantly on agave nectar in Oaxaca. The brand was founded in 2012 to work with traditional Mezcal distillers. Currently, two producers bottle under the Picaflor label:
Virgilio Velasco currently produces circa 5000 liters of Picaflor Espadín mezcal per year in San Luis del Rio, Tlacolula, Oaxaca.
Don Ramón Cruz García currently produces about 3500 liters of Picaflor Wild from 80% Espadín and 20% wild Madrecuishe in Mengolí de Morelos near Miahuatlán, Oaxaca.
Both double distill in traditional copper pot stills.
